Big goin’s are afoot! The WASPs will celebrate their
first Christmas Eve at Avenger Field in high style—complete with a
twelve foot Christmas tree and loads of decorations, presents, a dance
contest, good music, quiz program, skits, songs, and MEN.
Invitations have been sent to officers
and cadets at nearby fields, and one hundred fifty have already
accepted. Gifts may,, of course, invite their own dates if they choose.
Presents will be given to the guests. All gifts will cost no more than
fifty cents. They will be wrapped as neatly as possible, tied with
ribbons, tagged “….wishes you a very Merry Christmas,” and turned
in to the Christmas present committee. The Student Welfare Fund will
reimburse everyone for the gifts.
Fifi’s may dress
as gaily or as plainly as they please. Suits, sweaters, and formals are
all equally permissible for the party. Girls have been asked to use
their own judgement in choice of dress.
Miss Alvah Webb is
chief adviser for the program committees, and has worked night and day
on plans. Jane Robinson and
Kay Dussaq, W-1 are heading all committees, and Dot Henry, W-1, is floor
manager. Lt. J.B. Timmons
will act as master of ceremonies; he has planned with the floor manager
for community sing, choruses, and skits by various flights.
Madeline Sullivan, W-2, is head of the
Christmas tree decoration group. Madeline is currently up to her ears in
tinsel, artificial snow, and pretty wrappings, and begging everyone to
get their own wrappings in order too, for Santa will need help in
filling several hundred stockings. |
Trainees will draw
names by flights and exchange presents.
Betty Wall, W-1, will see that gifts are in the right places, and
preside over the list in the O.D’s office, where trainees may sign up
to buy presents for the visiting men.
Wendell (Wendy) Barclay
and Jo Ann Parry, W-4, are heading the reception committee, and will try
to see that the seventy-five cadets who will eat dinner here and stay
overnight find the dining hall and the right barracks.
Another part of
their job is seeing that the dancing runs smoothly and that
introductions are made.
Mimi Lindstrom, W-2,
is in charge of the refreshments, which will include coffee, sandwiches,
punch and cookies. The food will be prepared in the kitchen and carried
to the guy by her committee.
Jullie Jeaner, W-4,
in charge of publicity, has recruited Kip Humphries and Mickie
Carmichael of W-3 to make posters for the hall, canteen, and camps from
which guests are coming.
Dorothy Robinson,
W-5, and her staff will arrange for furniture, ashtrays, tables and
other dance floor necessities. Lt. William LaRue and Jeanette Jenkins,
W-1, are conduction the quiz contests, between cadets and trainees. Betty Scott, W-2, and her
committee are planning dance contests for the men.
Suggestions for any
of the committees and volunteer helpers are very welcome. All committees
are anxious to make the party a great success, with loads of fun for
WASPs and guests.
